Java Server Side Developer

Job Description:

Propylon is a leading global vendor of legislative and regulatory content management. We work with Legislatures and Regulatory agencies in the Europe and the US to solve their content management problems and use cutting edge technologies within our products to provide process efficiencies, increased collaboration, simplification of work flows and transparency of information.

Our platform is standards-based and cutting-edge. It uses Java, Python, XML, ActiveMQ, MySQL, Netbeans, Django, OpenOffice as well as other emerging technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on complex projects that require both depth and breadth of knowledge in a number of technologies.
  • Work with business users/business analysts to provide design recommendations.
  • Translate the business and technical requirements into business application systems.
  • Design and develop Java-based features, enhancements, and fixes using Object-Oriented Design techniques.
  • Deliver tasks of deployment quality including build scripts, unit and coverage reports.
  • Quality development based on a test first driven approach.
  • Automation of Unit and Integration tests to support a Continuous Integration environment
  • Participate in, and provide technical leadership to the project team

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Computer Science Degree or equivalent

2+ years commercial experience of the following:

  • Java
  • Asynchronous messaging, ideally in an ActiveMQ/JMS environment
  • Experience of systems from design through to implementation
  • Experience developing large, scalable, high availability Java applications
  • Linux, and Windows operating systems

Requirements:

  • Ability to deliver high quality code and documentation in a timely manner with little supervision
  • Excellent problem solving and debugging skills
  • Demonstrated teamwork and flexibility in previous work assignments
  • Accurately report issues and status to the project management
  • Self starter
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Desired Skills:

  • Exposure to Django, Python, Jython, publishing applications
