Technical Architect

Our platform is standards-based and cutting-edge. It uses Java, Python, XML, ActiveMQ, MySQL, Netbeans, Django, OpenOffice as well as other emerging technologies.

 

Job Description:

  • Lead the software engineering team onsite to deliver quality solutions
  • Work with our project manager to ensure successful delivery of the solutions
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the organisations development standards
  • Work with Propylon's Engineering Manager, Chief Scientist and Architects to ensure that the development standards and patterns are adhered to
  • Provide the innovation required to produce solutions using Propylon’s product stack
  • Provide leadership and guidance to all software engineers within the team
  • Provide high quality documentation to support the solution
Skills & Experience:
  • Proven delivery of projects on-time and to high levels of quality
  • At least 3 years experience in a technical architect role
  • At least 8-10 years experience working in IT
  • Proven ability to motivate, lead and provide assistance/mentoring to a team of engineers
  • Previous experience of developing coding standards and enforcing them
  • Experience in managing remote/off-shore teams a distinct advantage
  • Experience working in a Java/J2EE or Python/Django technologies
  • Experience of the following technologies is required:
    • Unix
    • Apache
    • MySQL or similar relational database
    • SVN
  • Experience of the following technologies such as these is a distinct advantage:
    • OpenOffice.org
    • ApacheMQ/ActiveMQ or other messaging system
    • NetBeans RCP
    • jQuery and JSON
  • Familiarity with Web protocols, standards & techniques such as http, REST, WS-*, RSS/Atom, XMPP a distinct advantage
  • Excellent understanding and experience of the software engineering lifecycle

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering or equivalent work experience.
