Legislative Workbench powered Legislation Translation Tool wins at Irish Government awards
Dublin Ireland - Jan. 27 2006
Rannóg an Aistriúcháin, the Translations Section of the Offices of the Houses of the Oireachtas, won the prestigious Inside Government award for its innovative implementation of the Legislative Workbench to support the bilingual production of Irish legislation. In addition to winning the award in the best class, the project also took a merit award in the category of Government to Government projects.
The awards, presented by An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern T.D, recognise excellence and creativity in technology initiatives in the public sector. The Rannóg an Aistriúcháin project utilizes a custom version of the Legislative Workbench legislation editor to support the production and publication of the Acts of the Oireachtas in English and Irish, in multiple formats: on the web, DVD, and paper.
The judges were particularly impressed by the innovation displayed at every stage of the groundbreaking Rannóg an Aistriúcháin project and the interoperability of the systems developed. The project, which involved the electronic capture of all primary legislation since the foundation of the state, the creation of an interoperable bilingual database using this material and the development of an innovative translation aid, is now Eircom InsideGovernment Best Project within an Organisation for 2005.
